* Congratulations to
David Hallberg *
First American principal dancer to join the Bolshoi Ballet!
David Hallberg is pictured above with YAA Artists, Nicholas MacKay and Julian MacKay, training full time at the
Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Moscow, Russia. Photo was taken outside the Bolshoi Theatre stage door following
David Hallberg's historic premiere performance with the Bolshoi Ballet.
David graciously autographed and presented the two pairs of ballet shoes he wore
in the performance to Nicholas and Julian.

Staatsballett Berlin principal Polina Semionova, one of the ballet world's brightest
stars, has donated a pair of autographed pointe shoes to Youth Arts in Action in
support of Julian MacKay (
featured in Pointe's October/November issue
) and Nicholas MacKay, who are training at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow.
Pointe gave away the shoes on behalf of YAA to raise awareness of the sponsorship
needs of Americans training at the Bolshoi.
Congratulations to Diana Duncan
from Sacramento,California
for winning the Pointe Magazine giveaway of
Polina Semionova's pointe shoes!

Scholarships
Youth Arts in Action awards scholarships
to outstanding young artists who are highly motivated and recognized for their potential
for a career in the arts by internationally known teachers. This potential has also
been acknowledged through recommendations, acceptance letters and scholarship offers
from outside the state. Preference for scholarships in classical ballet is given
to those who have been accepted by major institutions such as Royal Ballet School
in London, American Ballet Theatre NYC, San Francisco Ballet School, Acadmie de
Danse Classique Princesse Grace, and the Bolshoi Academy. Professionals from music
and dance are consulted for their award recommendations. Recently, these have included
Principal Dancer Wieslaw Dudek from Staatsballett Berlin and Russian ballerina and
Professor of Dance
at the University of Utah, Regina Zarhina.
